How to fix “iPhone, iPad won’t connect to wifi” issue

Connection with WiFi through the iPhone or iPad is a usual problem that people face most often and you might not be able to browse websites like Google, Facebook etc. At times you might face the problem that your iPhone won’t connect to WiFi or you are facing At&T or Verizon wireless
connectivity issues due to several reasons and hence, you can’t figure out why WiFi won’t work. This trouble might occur accidentally and there might be specific reasons for this like, problem in your WiFi router, DNS problems, inappropriate configurations, etc. But whatever is the trouble, we got you a number of fixes and troubleshooting options to resolve your wireless connection with iPhone/iPad.
How to fix WiFi on iPhone, iPad?

Remember the fixes we are providing will support all iPhone and iPad models, including iPhone 4/4S/5/5C/6/6 Plus and iPad Mini/Air, iPad 3/4.


(1) Restart WiFi router

If the root issue of your WiFi connectivity is the modem or router then you’ll require rebooting the router to start with a fresh connection. Turn off the WiFi router and restart it after 2 minutes. It will definitely start working. This solution works in most cases and makes your WiFi run once again.
(2) Turn off location services
At times, the turning on geolocation in your iPhone often resolves the iPhone WiFi not working scenario. To disable this service, go to your iPhone Settings > Privacy > Location settings > System Services > turn off WiFi networking. Now reboot your iPhone and check if the problem has disappeared.

(3) Reset WiFi networking connection

Resetting the network connection flushes DNS, clears cache clutter and DHCP and refreshes data variables for WiFi connection in the iOS. This often makes WiFi work in iOS devices and so you should also try it to solve the WiFi not working issue. To reset networking connection,
Go to Setting > General
Tap Reset > Reset Network Settings
Reboot your mobile phone and check your WiFi now.
(4) Update your iOS version

Updating the iPhone OS often bring some fixes and unwanted bugs and hence, you should upgrade the iOS version in order to find why the wireless connection not working. This actually solves the WiFi problems and makes it work again. You can upgrade iOS via OTA or by connecting your smartphone to iTunes but make sure you back up your files and data before performing this.

(5) Divert WiFi connection to Google DNS servers


Using inappropriate DNS servers can often cause trouble with WiFi connections and ultimately your iPhone won’t connect to WiFi. So to avoid such problems, you can eradicate your ISP servers and use Google’s instead. Google DNS helps load page speed faster than your own ISP and probably helps users who are facing such issues. Google DNS servers are free to use and you can find them at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. To change WiFi DNS, follow these steps:

Go to Settings > WiFi
Tap on the ‘i’ next to your network name
Now manually enter the Google DNS in the DNS section
Save the settings and perform a speed test to verify it
(6) Forget WiFi network in iOS

If your iPad won’t connect to WiFi even after implementing the above steps, then try doing this.
Go to Settings > WiFi
Tap on the ‘i’ button next to your network
Tap on ‘Forget this Network’

Now try to connect to WiFi again and your issue will be definitely resolved.


(7) Troubleshooting WiFi with WiFi assist

iOS 9 includes a new feature called WiFi Assist that lets you switch to your cellular network when WiFi connection is poor or deteriorating. If the above iPhone WiFi not working solutions does not solve your problem then you can try doing this.

Go to Settings > Cellular > WiFi Assist
Toggle the WiFi Assist button from on to off

This might clear out your WiFi issues and toggle the button back to ‘on’ again might make WiFi start working again.

What if my WiFi isn’t working even after upgrading the OS?


If your iPhone/iPad is still facing the same issue even after upgrading the phone software, then here’s what you need to do.
  • Go to Settings > Airplane Mode > Turn it on
  • Tap on General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
  • Confirm the action
  • After your iPhone has completed resetting now you should turn off your router
  • Turn your router on again and reset it
  • Now go back to Settings > Turn Airplane mode off again
  • Now check if your WiFi started working

Now even after trying all these solutions, still if your WiFi fails to connect and you feel that ‘my phone will not connect to my WiFi’, then the last option left is to visit Apple’s customer support center. The Apple geniuses will look over to your problem and fix it out. This might also occur due to some hardware issues which can be solved from Apple’s service center. So instead of trying to fix it yourself, go to your nearest Apple Care center and find a fix.
